June 2, 2009 Mitchell, SD to Pipestone, MN
This was a short, two hour jaunt down I-90 to Sioux Falls, SD and then northeast to Pipestone, MN. We are now set up at Pipestone RV Park. The campground is right at the edge of Pipestone and across the road from The Pipestone National Monument. This is a Passport America park, which means 50% off the daily rate, which is good. Town is historically beautiful and the park is clean and quiet. We were met by the owner and two workcampers. They gave recommendations on where to eat and what to do. We went to Lange's restaurant and the food was great and the price wonderful. This was opened in the 1950s by twin brothers and is still in the family. They make their own ice cream, deserts and the rest of the food tasted home made, too. Tomorrow, we will see what the Monument across the street has to behold. I expected a monument to be like Mt. Rushmore but this seems more like a large park - interesting. Maybe we will try to get to Devil's Gulch tomorrow, too. Can't rush it, though. We had planned on staying two nights here but, with all we want to see and do, looks like we will add a night or two to our stay.
