Rockport, TX early days at campground

After setting up amidst the gnarly Live Oaks, we found that we have had a lot of heavy fog. When we woke today it was bright, warm and sunny! The Live Oaks are all over this park and are beautiful. It is amazing how they bend and twist. We did a small amount of damage to the Montana backing into our site and striking one of these twisty fellers. It is up high in the rear and the mark will be taken out with rubbing wax. Sunny really likes this warm weather. She is content to stroll the park or just to sleep in the feesh, warm air. She has met many other new furry friends while here. Some friends of ours arrived yesterday and are now set up right next door to us. We are on a small hill overlooking a small lake/pond that is supposed to be home to three gators. When we take our night time walks, we will have to stay on the roadway, I guess. More friends are coming up from Mission, TX and should arrive soon. Looks like our "touristing" will be put off again for a few but life is good so there is no problem!

Willis, TX to Rockport, TX

Yesterday we towed our Montana from Willis to Rockport, TX. As we traveled through Houston, our camera battery went dead. We usually recharge it prior to our moves but this time forgot. I have always liked urban skylines and we were able to get a shot of part of Houston's skyline. We will have to revisit Houston some day so that we can take a proper skyline shot. We saw a tall "needle" building for a long distance away and got a shot of it, too. Don't know what attracted us to it but, in case we ever recall why, it is memorialized here, now! It is really too bad that the camera battery died because we saw all kinds of alligators, cougars, snakes, elephants and circus clowns and were not able to photograph any of them. Oh, well. Maybe next time! We are now set up at BayView RV Resort, a ROD park. The interior roads are horrible but our site is beautiful. We are on a hill overlooking a small pond that is home to a resident gator. Sunny is excitedly meeting new friends here, too. Just hope she does not get up close and personal with the gator! She is a real people magnet. There are no strangers to her, just people she has not met yet. Bob and Noreen, two friends that I worked with at Waldenwoods RV Resort in Michigan, are arriving here tonight so we will be able to see them for two weeks. Their home park is near Bandara, TX and we will be there for a couple of weeks next month, too. They have two dogs so Sunny should be very happy, too. Oh, yes. I almost forgot - 72 AND SUNNY YESTERDAY AND MORE OF SAME TODAY, ONLY WITH SOME CLOUDS!!!

63 and sunny!

Today was our last day in Willis, TX. The temp rose to 63 and the sun was out all day long! Absolutely great. Tomorrow we leave for Rockport, TX for two weeks. The temps there are supposed to be in the 70s all week. WOW!!! This is what we came here for. Sunny strolled without a coat and loved it. She is a real people magnet. Even in the cold and cool weather we have been having, people want to pet her and talk about Greyhounds. Today I had coffee with a crash investigator from Willis, TX that Dave Ostrem introduced me to. He is a retired Texas State Trooper and he has some of the same clients that I had when The Boylan Agency was up and running. A very interesting time. What a small world this really is!

A great day in Houston!

Today was a great day in Houston. The only flaw in the day, if it can be called a flaw, was that it rained off and on until about 2:00PM. We even found that Houston has Palm Trees. This surprised us. We started out meeting friends at Golden Corrall for lunch. We each had driven half way from our respective camping spots. We must have talked for a couple of hours or so before parting, them to return to their campsite and us to go to Spring, TX. We had been invited to attend the Greyhound Pets of America/Houston monthly version of a Meet and Greet. Old Town Spring is a small, artsy community. The GPA walk around the shops and sidewalks with their Greys so that the townsfolk and tourists can get to meet, pet and learn about Greyhounds. The people love it but I believe that the Greys love it even more. We had been invited by the coordinator, Tim Haller and his friend, John Rohrer and three Greys, Jenny, Goldy and

Mattie. We had a wonderful time wandering this quaint town for a while and watching Sunny totally enjoy being with other Greyhounds and people that wanted to touch, pet, spoil and learn about her. We took a group photo with, left to right, John and Tim and Matty, Goldy, Jenny and Sunny.

Smokey Moe's BBQ

Had some of the best barbque we have had in a long time yesterday at Smokey Moe's BBQ, in Willis, TX. Big meaty bones and great sauce. Reminded me of the sauce from the neighborhoods of old Detroit. We usually order a combo plate in a new BBQ joint, ribs and chicken, and both were delicious. We both recommend Smokey Moe's, if you ever get to Texas! Gonna get some of the sauce to travel with and bring home with us.

First impressions of Texas and more Sunny

The first photo was our greeting on our entrance to Texas. The people we have met since then seem to go our of their way to be friendly! Do you see the beauty of the second photo? It shows water and sewer hose hooked up and there is no fear of freezing! What a concept! We kept Sunny's coat on today because it was low 50s and rainy but couldn't pass up every chance we could to get outside. Sunny thanks us every day, now that we are in warmer Texas. Tomorrow we are going to a Meet and Greet sponsored by a Greyhound Adoption Group from the Houston area. Sunny will meet Texas Greys and we will meet more of our new extended family. Carol's tooth is now giving her no problem at all. She is still taking the antibiotic, though.

Arkadelphia, AR to Tenaha, TX to Willis, TX

Wednesday we drove from Arkadelphia, AR to Tenaha, TX. The weather warmed up considerably and the sun shone brightly. The afternoon was in the mid-50s or so and last night it dropped to only 41. This low was higher than it has been in the daytime since before we left Michigan. We stayed at The Lazy Armadillo Campground, a Passport America Park. This is a nice, small and clean park right on US-59. It was located in the middle of nowhere and we had no cell phone or internet coverage. Once we got used to this, it was kinda nice. When we left today, the sun came out and the temperature rose quickly to 62 degrees. When we neared our new campground in Willis, TX, the rain started. The ground was muddy but we have a cement pad for our rig. Sunny is really comfortable, now, rising in the morning and getting into the pickup to go to a new interesting spot. New people to meet, new scents to smell - it is so great! She is a really happy puppy, now. The unexpected is beginning to be expected by her. It is funny watching her get out of the truck at a new rest area or pit stop along a highway. Carol will be holding the leash and a 63 pound greyhound tries to go her own way. Sunny is so excited that she jumps and prances with the warm weather. When she gets into the Montana at night, she is more than ready to eat and crash. I will try to post some more pictures soon but it is time to take my before bedtime nap, now!
